Joint Commission Resources, an affiliate of the Joint Commission, has launched a new consulting service that will provide an objective evaluation of technology with a patient safety focus.
ATLANTA–At the HIMSS10 conference this week, McKesson displayed a variety of EHR software ranging from systems for large hospitals and networks to products for small physician practices.
To enable widespread health IT use across the U.S., we need fairness among the types of resources physicians can receive via stimulus money, help for outpatient care not covered by the HITECH Act and a fair benchmark for achieving meaningful use (other than 100 percent), according to Michael Zaroukian, MD, PhD, CMIO and associate professor of medicine, Michigan State University.

ATLANTA--“Health IT support [within a hospital] may not have the skill set to manage images, and radiology support does not have skill set to manage integration of all hospital information, so we need both groups to work together. I think that both groups together will make a much stronger system,” said Janice Honeyman-Buck, PhD, independent imaging informatics consultant and editor-in-chief of the Journal of Digital Imaging, during her session Wednesday at HIMSS10.

President Obama has often referred to electronic health records as a solution to reduce medical errors. To achieve this goal, we propose the "Eight Rights of EHR-Based Safe Care."
Acumen Solutions has been selected to provide a cloud computing customer relationship management and project management application to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services' Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC).
EHR vendors must incorporate software-as-a-service (SaaS) and speech recognition services into their product portfolio if they wish to take advantage of market opportunities in 2010 EHR market, according to a report by market research firm Ovum.
The Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC) in the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has made available two additional grant programs to support the training and development of the skilled workforce required to support adoption and use of health IT.
The Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT) has certified EHR technology against proposed federal standards to support providers in qualifying for incentives under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA). A total of 14 products have now been certified under its two new programs—CCHIT Certified 2011 Comprehensive and Preliminary ARRA 2011—launched on Oct. 7, 2009.
