Off-label prescribing, the use of drugs for indications that have not received regulatory approval, occurs with up to 21 percent of prescribed drugs. Innovative health IT experts are employing varied systems, including EHRs, CDS and CPOE, to track off-label usage and assess drug, patient and physician factors that influence off-label prescribing.
Computerized clinical decision support systems have the potential to improve patient outcomes through their impact on clinical decision making.
